Olana en plein air art showThe Columbia County Council on the Arts and The Olana Partnership are excited to announce our collaboration on the second annual ‘Creating Landscapes within the Landscape’, a plein air paint-out, art show, and auction to be held on October 5th. Last year’s inaugural event was a great success, with almost 200 people attending the art show and auction at Olana.Twenty-six plein air artists will capture one of the most famous sites in America and the 19th century home, studio, and artist-designed landscape of Hudson River School artist, Frederic Edwin Church. The 250-acre historic estate features a Persian-inspired mansion and five miles of carriage roads, many of which traverse the property in much the way Church created his canvasses, with strategically revealed vistas of one of the most strikingly beautiful places in the Hudson Valley.

Handmade Book of Monoprints

Yesterdays second session of a Creativity Workshop given by Dawn Breeze in which we made our own books. The pages were mono prints and the text we chose from various characteristics that we admired in others and in ourselves. The title of all of our books was Whole and this particular session focused on Wholeness. We worked on affirmations, writings and drawings but the highlight for me was the fun I had creating the Whole book. Printing the pages, choosing and writing the text and finally putting the pages together and sewing it all together. Here are some photos of my particular favorites…Thank you Dawn and everyone in the class!

On Saturday, October 6th, at the Columbia County Council of the Arts ArtsWalk Member’s Reception and Opening of the Postcard Show, CCCA artist, Tim Ebneth of Kinderhook, was named as the 2012 Linda Arnaud Memorial Individual Grant Award recipient. Mr. Michel Arnaud, benefactor of the grant, presented the award to Mr. Ebneth for the use in his upcoming project entitled “Where the Sky Opens.”

Tim’s project will be a yearlong exploration and investigation of Columbia County’s approximately 25 villages through photography, drawings, found objects and ephemera collected at the various locations in the villages and outlying landscape. The project came to mind remembering, as a child driving through Columbia County with his family from the city, being captivated with the incredible beauty of the land and Catskill views. As a full time resident in Columbia County now, he states, “I wanted to give back to the villages and hamlets a piece of the beauty and history that they have given to me first in memory and now as a daily reminder” states Mr. Ebneth.  The culmination of the project will result in a large scale abstract mixed media paintings and works on paper incorporating these elements as well as the landscape.

These works will be shown at various locations throughout Columbia County during next year’s ArtsWalk 2013. The annual Linda Arnaud Memorial Fund honors the memory of beloved artist and CCCA Board Member, Linda Arnaud, whose contributions to the arts continues to enrich the lives of both artists and the community today.
